Historically Haverhill was quite an important town with a medieval fortified manor owned by William, de Haverhill, who was appointed as treasurer to Henry III in 1247 but a fire in 1667 almost burnt the town to the ground though Haverhill still has much to offer architecturally, such as the Grade II listed 17th C building, Anne of Cleaves House.
Closer to present day the Town Hall also depicts a Victorian past and has transformed into a local history Arts Centre and Gallery. It is also home to a theatre/cinema and bistro.
East Town Park is a walkers paradise offering the starting point for many circular walks and rambles around the local countryside. It also has a visitor centre and a children's play area if you do not wish to go too far with small children.
